You may have heard you should get 10,000 steps in a day. For some, that’s easy. For others, that’s a lot. While it’s good to have a numerical goal, I encourage you to be realistic about it. As Heartwood residents, I also encourage you to take advantage of the St. Joseph’s/Candler Walking Trail. If you need motivation or a place to get started, you can join me and others each Thursday at 8 a.m. as we Hike The Hill.
Hike The Hill is a free, weekly walk with myself, incorporating stretching and other exercises into a two-mile hike to the hill and back to enhance your overall physical, emotional and social well-being. It’s designed for all fitness levels. We meet at 8 a.m. at the Outfitters Building before hitting the trail.
You can sign up for this class on the Bē Health app. Don’t have the app?
Download it on the Apple or Google Play stores (see below).
Heartwood residents can obtain the exclusive Heartwood code by contacting Sarah Hanson, the Bē Health navigator at hansons@sjchs.org or by calling 912-675-0524.
Why am I encouraging you to get more steps in? It is so beneficial to your overall health – both physically and mentally. To help you find creative ways to get in as many steps as possible, consider:
- Skipping the elevator and escalator and taking the stairs
- Do a lap around your building or neighborhood on your lunch break
- During TV commercials, get up and walk around the house, do jumping jacks, squats or anything physical
- Park further away and walk to your destination
- Make it a habit to walk the neighborhood or a local park right after work
- Host a virtual walk with family and friends anywhere in the country
We to see you at our next Hike The Hill.
If you have any questions or need assistance with the app, email me at hansons@sjchs.org or call 912-675-0524.
