Heartwood’s Family Fitness Day was a tremendous success this past weekend, welcoming more than 150 residents to The Green for an afternoon built around movement, connection, and healthy living.
Hosted by St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Bē Health and Well-Being in partnership with Heartwood, the event showcased exactly what makes wellness a cornerstone of life in the community. Families filled The Green for an afternoon of classic outdoor fun—sack races, three-legged races, bean bag toss, hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and a bounce house that kept the youngest residents laughing and moving all afternoon. Bleu Coat Kitchen kept everyone fueled with burgers and hotdogs sizzling on the grill, creating the perfect setting for neighbors to gather and enjoy time outdoors together.
A highlight of the day was a series of exercise demonstrations at The Outfitters, led by Sara Hanson, Heartwood’s Be Health Navigator. Residents had the opportunity to experience firsthand the many ways Be Health is helping bring wellness into everyday life at Heartwood—from fitness and education to simply encouraging neighbors to move more and spend time together.
“At Heartwood, wellness isn’t an afterthought—it’s part of the foundation,” said Hanson. “The Be Health program is about creating opportunities for residents to move their bodies, connect with one another, and build habits that support long, healthy lives.”
The celebration also served as the awards ceremony for the Bē Health Block Challenge, a month-long neighborhood wellness competition that encouraged residents to stay active together.
Erica and Joshua Boos were recognized as the adult winners, while the Holler children claimed the youth title. Each winner rode away with a brand-new bicycle from Game Changers courtesy of St. Joseph’s / Candler, a prize that will keep the momentum going long after the event.
The top team in the challenge was also honored during the celebration, receiving a certificate from the Heartwood development team for a Lowcountry Boil party to share with their block and teammates.
With residents filling The Green, children playing freely on the lawn, and neighbors cheering each other on, Family Fitness Day reflected the larger vision behind the Be Health partnership. Together, St. Joseph’s/Candler and the Heartwood Lifestyle team are helping make wellness more than a program, it’s becoming a way of life woven into the daily rhythm of the community.
