Three Reasons Why You Should Get a Health Screening!
St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Bē Health and Well-Being® program to host complimentary health screenings on January 22 and March 18.
By Sarah Hanson, Bē Health and Well-Being® Navigator
I know you have a lot of numbers to remember – your social security number, your boss’s extension, your anniversary… But, there are some really important numbers that I encourage you to find out that can help save you from health
problems before they start. They are called BIOMETRICS, and St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Bē Health and Well-Being® program is offering Heartwood residents (18 years and older) a free health screening. This screening will include blood pressure, total cholesterol (HDL, LDL and triglycerides), A1C and glucose and body mass index. Knowing these numbers can help identify those at high risk for heart disease, prediabetes and diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity.
Make an Appointment on Wednesday, Jan. 22 or Tuesday, March 18
How? Download the Bē Health app.
Email Sarah to get the resident perk code if you do not already have it! Look for the Bē Health Navigator pink box in the Your Health tab on the app to see available appointment times. During this assessment, you will meet with me to measure your height, weight, have your blood
pressure checked and blood work drawn.
Please fast for at least 10 to 12 hours prior to your appointment. You will get your results at that same appointment, and you and I can discuss those or set up a complementary visit with me to review your information. You can also take your results to your primary care provider.
As a long-time health and well-being educator, let me give you three reasons why it’s important to have basic blood work done annually!
1. It monitors your overall health: Annual blood tests provide a baseline of your health metrics, making it easier to detect any changes or trends over time.
2. It’s early detection for diseases: Blood work can identify warning signs of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, anemia or liver and kidney problems before symptoms appear. Early detection allows for timely intervention and better outcomes.
3. It helps manage chronic conditions: For individuals with chronic conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol, regular blood work is crucial to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and adjust medications if necessary.
So please, I encourage you to take advantage of this free benefit to being a Heartwood resident. Go tocthe app to schedule your appointment! If you have any questions or need assistance scheduling an appointment, email me at hansons@sjchs.org or call 912-675-0524.
